The lamp is made from Corian, which is a material than can be formed in any shape imaginable when heated to a high temperature. The ghost-like delicate tentacles contribute to the appearance of floating through water and in the right lighting background, will add a magnificent ambiance to an interior setting.

The designer of the lamp, Markus Johansson, describes his work “as a glowing lamp in the darkness” where “unexpected experiences and surprises wait deep down on the ocean floor.”

When lit in a dark room, the octopus lamps will seem to bulge with desire to float away on invisible tides. A majestic beast lighting up the darkness of the deep as it sweeps along.

Shower caddies in general tend to be dull and often rather ugly once soap stains or rust have their way with them. The solution is this amusing octopus made from natural latex which is known for having fantastic grip. Instead of reaching, half blind, for the shampoo or shower gel bottles somewhere below your knees, you can instead simply grab the container you require, squeeze and let go, quickly and easily. The octopus caddy even stores the bottles upside down so when nearly empty, the shampoo or gel will be ready to come out.

The eight-armed octopus shower caddy is the creation of the Swedish design company Formverket, trademark of Jens Widerberg, which combines simplicity and functionality so inherent in Scandinavian design.

The octopus sculpture is made from pewter and has the expressive nature of an octopus beneath the waves. Did you know?: Octopuses are considered the most intelligent of invertebrates and their analytical skills have been well documented by scientists. Not only this but due to their lack of an internal skeleton they can get into the most narrow of slits, tubes and holes. Octopuses have been known to open the lids of their aquariums, crawl out of the water and crawl along the ground to nearby tanks filled with crabs and fish, there gorging themselves silly on the inhabitants.

Adam Wallacavage discovered this when he set about designing a serious of octopus chandeliers. They come in various shapes, sizes and materials, some even morphing into other animals such as snakes. The original designs are certainly eye-catching and in a way have a certain beauty to them. Most are pretty true to form even including the suction cups on the tentacles. If you’re squeamish, these are not going to be the lighting instillations you are looking for. Would I have one? No, probably not.
