The distinctive look of owls makes them an ideal subject for fine art, sculpture and home interior décor. This “Who’s Hoo” framed art print is a fine example of great owl themed artwork to fit on your wall. Featuring a parliament (the term for a group of these birds) of owls, the print is a reproduction of work created by the famed American bird artist Don McMahon. The cheerful collection of owls is beautifully represented and will bring a swish of color and visual interest to an interior setting.

There are a number of different types of owls and each one is portrayed in this art piece. You have, amongst others, the barn owl, the barred owl, the great horned owl, the screech owl, the snowy owl and the great grey owl. The parliament of owls is like a who’s who of the highly recognisable nocturnal bird species. You’ll note that all the expressions are different with some owls looking rather sleepy whilst others show either gentle disdain or intrigued concentration (perhaps after seeing your pet mouse).

Don McMahon’s art work can be seen across North America and his passion for drawing and painting birds was born from his childhood. The attention to detail and the fantastic characters that the birds possess are testament to an artist who loves to paint and to watch birds in their natural habitats. The latter quality of which, the artist gained from his mother, who was herself a world-renowned bird watcher.

Owls in western societies have for a long time been associated with wisdom. The ancient Greek goddess Athena, who was the goddess of wisdom, even had the owl as a symbol. Owls were also important cultural symbols in many societies around the world including in pre-European North America, South Asia, Africa and the Middle East, where they were seen as unlucky omens. This framed art piece however is not unlucky and will take pride of place on just about any interior wall. If you have a home study, studio or library, then the wise collection of owls will fit perfectly with the studious ambiance of the room.

Adding stretched canvas art to an interior wall is a wonderful way to bring colour and decorative styling to a room. This leaf themed stretched wall art portrays a number of leaf designs in a varying array of tones and shapes which will sit well in a space where reminders of the natural world are desired. Simple yet also complex, the design will compliment a multitude of décor schemes already present in the interior.

The modern stretched canvas has been decorated using hand printed leaf designs which echo the beauty of Summer and Autumn scenes we can see in both rural and urban environments. It has been made in the United States with a decidedly eco-friendly emphasis behind the construction. All waste is recycled as is the item itself at the end of its life. The inks used are also kind to the eco-system and this can be an important element for many people before deciding to purchase.

White walled rooms with a minimalist design scheme will probably benefit most from this type of stretched wall art where the simple leaf motifs will not be overcrowded and lost amongst surrounding visual accents. That said, a lot depends on the style of your interior and more busy schemes might even benefit from a white wall art piece. The leaves bring the outdoors to the indoors and this will work well in combination with other nature-themed art, sculpture and patterns.

You can buy this piece here: Collage in Cornflower Stretched Wall Art.

Price is dependent upon the size you choose. The sizes range from the smallest which is 16″x16″ all the way to the largest which is 54″x54″.

The 97th Tour de France is currently in progress as I write this post. More than 100 cyclists are racing around the roads of France from the north to the south and back again, all the way to the finish line in Paris. No cycle race matches the history and prestige of the Tour de France and this beautiful art print poster ‘Victory on the Champs-Elysees’ shows the color and spectacle associated with this epic and highly popular sporting event.

The Tour typically lasts for 21 days and covers around 3,200 kilometres. The New York Times once said of the sport, “the Tour de France is arguably the most physiologically demanding of athletic events”. If you’re a fan of long-distance cycle racing and like to cycle yourself, then you’ll know first-hand how gruelling this race really is. The first Tour began way back in 1903 and has since become an iconic tradition and opportunity to admire the beauty that is the French landscape.

This Tour de France art print poster is an ideal gift accessory for anyone you know, including yourself, who loves to watch the French cycle race each year. The speed and vibrancy of the final stage in Paris is captured in this painting which shows riders racing down the famous Avenue des Champs-Élysées. In the distance, in the center of the green trees, is the Arc de Triomphe de l’Étoile monument which honors the soldiers who fought for France especially during the Napoleonic Wars.

This poster incorporates the famous images of France including the architectural aspects and the sporting traditions. Together with the French flags that line the most expensive strip of real estate in Europe, the wonderful talent of Malcolm Farley captures the action and emotions of cyclists from around the world intent on winning the ultimate prize. It’s bound to enliven your living room or home study wall and create a talking point amongst fellow cycling enthusiasts.

You can buy this poster from here: Victory on the Champs-Elysees Print.

I’ve been engrossed with the coverage of the Vancouver Winter Olympics over the last few days. My favourite competition has been the speed skating, especially the short track. The grace of the speed skater’s body and movement as they slide around the ice is enthralling and the heat of the battle is pulsating. That’s why when I saw this Andy Warhol Speed Skater art print, I knew I had to write about it.

Andy Warhol is one of the most famous 20th century artists known to the general public. This is due to his prolific amount of work and ground-breaking movement into the world of Pop Art. His most famous works were a collection of multiple images of every day objects such as soda bottles, dollar bills, soup cans and celebrities. Warhol’s innovation of silk-screening provided yet more plaudits from the public and art critics alike.

The Speed Skater, c.1983, is in a similar style to these famous prints. Boxes of color are superimposed over one another and in the center is the elegant yet dynamic image of a speed skater in the heat of competition. There’s no reference to any one Winter Olympics which makes this speed skater poster timeless and relevant to all past, present and future Winter Games. What I particularly like is how the colored boxes have been placed at angles, suggesting movement and in many ways, instability that comes from racing on millimeter thick skating blades.

If like me, you have been following the Vancouver Olympic speed skating events, then this Andy Warhol speed skating art print will make a nice decorative accessory for a wall in your home. It will suit contemporary interiors especially and will also add some 20th Century artistic history to a setting, not to mention memories of fun sporting occasions.

Annora Spence is a British artist whose work I have admired for many years. In fact I have a number of her art prints on my walls dotted around my home. I first saw Annora Spence’s when browsing a London Art Gallery and was taken by the unique style she has created and which now makes her work famous throughout the world. When you have come into contact with one painting by Spence, you will know her other works from a distance, wherever you go, without having to read the name tag. So who is she?

Annora Spence studied printed textiles during the 1980s at Liverpool Polytechnic. From there she advanced her education in the same field by gaining an MA from another polytechnic in the relatively nearby (by US geographical norms) city of Birmingham. During the 1990s Spence worked as a freelance artist and designer as well as forming a career as a painter. With the latter career path especially, her fame and global reach grew and she enjoyed sell-out gallery shows in numerous major capital cities include her own, London. In the mid-90s she evolved her work to encompass silkscreen painting which gave her style yet another dimension.

Throughout her life, Annora Spence has travelled widely. Like with anyone who visits foreign countries and continents, the sights and sounds that she came across could not help but have an influence on her art work. In particular, her journeys across Europe and India provided inspiration for many of the characters and colors she has used on many of her prints. The richness of tone, of color and texture hark back to the cultural gems she must have seen in the Mediterranean regions of Europe and the fashion and craft of the Indian Subcontinent.

Much of her work is filled with humor and certain amount of quirkiness. This provides a wonderful basis for abstract enjoyment which comes across in her art prints. What I particularly like is her use of color which shows her ability to merge different hues and tones that many people just cannot do, in a tasteful manner anyway. Eccentricity is a key factor in her work and this is intentional on the part of Annora Spence.

I recommend looking through the wonderful portfolio of British artist Annora Spence. If you want to add some color and originality to your walls, then her work is certainly a very good option to consider. They look good placed into nice simple wooden frames as well.
