Decorative hand made furniture is a popular choice for many people around the world. There’s nothing quite like the special individual quality of wooden carvings decorated by artisans from Asia, Africa or South America. The wood is from the rosewood genus and is native to the Indian Subcontinent. It’s known wordwide as one of the finest woods for the making of cabinets and similar types of furniture. As you may notice from the picture, the Saharanpur craftsmen have etched brass inlay on to the wood. This gives it a beautiful period look and is particular to these artisan’s style. In fact, the technique if a mixture of styles including those from the ancient Indian, Persian and Mughal wood workers. The city is now well known for its high quality furniture and sculptures made from wood.
