Spiral Wine Cellar Beneath the Floor

In the wine world, there is nothing quite as eye-catching, romantic and innovative as the spiral wine cellar that can be found beneath the floor. If space is at a premium above ground, then an underground wine cellar that is capable of storing over 1,000 bottles, might be what you’re searching for. In fact, in France alone, more than 20,000 of these spiral wine cellars have been installed as well as more than 2,500 in the United Kingdom.

The concept was originally born out of a design by Frenchman, Georges Harnois, in the late 1970s. He discovered that people wanted a place to store their wine in homes that were often lacking cellar space.

It requires absolutely no power to maintain and is in many ways similar to the old Roman style of underfloor heating and cooling. Once installed, it requires no more action, other than the adding and subtracting of great wines.

how-trapdoor-wine-cellar-worksI must say, I am very impressed with this concept and would one day love to have one of these spiral wine cellars installed beneath one of my floors. The entertainment value as well as the functional aspect is immense. They add a whole new dimension and interior to the home. Interior rooms where the spiral wine cellar trapdoor can be installed include the floors in the living room, dining room, hallway, kitchen, library and also the garage.

Very pleasantly surprised with this custom wine cellar. It’s artistically conceptualized. I wanted a wine cellar in Illinois and I am thinking of the most artistic way to design it.

I agree Holly. I’ve never seen a custom wine cellar designed this way.
