As a child, I was always very fond of the concept of angels. Their kind smiling faces, open arms and beautiful white wings always relieved my fears of the dark or of school the next day. I’ve always had a vivid imagination and so the epic stories my parents told me of angels, spirits and ghosts have long stayed with me and fascinated my curious and dare I say, romantic mind. This is why this children’s Guardian Angel Rug caught my eye today.
It’s been said that if “babies look beyond you and giggle, maybe they’re seeing angels”. Perhaps they are but it would be nice to have an angel you too can see when sitting in their bedroom reading them a bedtime story. To a little child, a mother’s touch is more beautiful than any feathered angel wing and this is how it should always be. However, the beauty of an angel’s imagery and symbolism is something I think all kids should enjoy.
Now more than ever, with the eroding away of precious childhood years by the digital age and crass celebrity culture, there need to be anchors of virtue and spirituality that strengthen the hearts of kids. I’m thankful to have been brought up with tales of angels, spirits and fairies that cultivated my imagination and the wonderfully magical world I inhabited as a child. This was in no small part to the fact that my Godmother was a nun. She sent me gifts of angels and hand knitted teddy bears each important occasion. Everything was special when I was a toddler and ideals of kindness and empathy were instilled in me through Christian stories.
That’s why I like this Guardian Angel Rug. On the floor or wall of your child’s bedroom, it will lighten up the interior space with a catalyst for beautiful dreams of mystery and adventure, whilst at the same time providing a comforting focus when worries might set in. If you’re child is scared of the dark, leave a little lamp on which illuminates the rug. Then your son or daughter will be able to fall asleep gazing at the kind face of an angel.

I’ll leave you with a quotation I particularly like.
“Life is a tapestry: We are the warp; angels, the weft; God, the weaver. Only the Weaver sees the whole design.” ~ Eileen Elias Freeman.
