One of my favourite interior decoration blogs is Decor8 by Holly Becker. Her online home, is dedicated to bringing her many readers various decorating ideas, product reviews and trade show coverage, as well as some fun contests. Holly is a writer and interior design consultant, two talents which naturally lend themselves to a thoroughly good décor blog. The fact she lives in two countries, splitting her time between Germany and the United States means a wide array of interesting interior design trends are exhibited.
Anyway, you can read more about Holly in the ‘about’ section of her website. The rest of this post is going to focus on some images she came across which caught my eye and which I shall reproduce here. These pictures show the interior of a London loft, it’s exact location unknown but by the view from outside the window, I would guess a posh part like Kensington, St John’s Wood or Chelsea.
The white interior walls clearly reflect and enhance the natural light that seeps through the large bay windows. Even much of the furnishings are white including the simple coffee table and chairs. Little touches of colour have been added so as to avoid ‘snow blindness’.
One thing in particular that I love about this interior is the staircase. You almost miss it because of it’s fragile looking simplicity. There are no hand rails which in a way camouflages the structure to the white walls and wooden floors.
Note that the kitchen is in the same interior space as the living room area but has been cleverly separated with the supporting mechanisms for the bedroom above. I’m not a great fan of having a kitchen directly open to the other rooms of an apartment or house however, this does seem to add character. Above all it makes great use of space. I like the white tiling and the retro appliances.
The bedroom area is reached by climbing the stairs. One would hope the occupant would not be in a state of alcohol-fuelled stupor or the ascending could be rather hazardous without guard rails. The décor is kept to a minimum and this minimalist style suits the loft interior design well.
On a personal note, this bedroom reminds me of my climb-in bed when I lived in Berlin. My apartment included a living area-cum-bedroom where the bed rested on stilts high above the ground. Luckily the ceiling was very high. It looked fantastic though.
Have a browse through Holly’s blog and let me know what your thoughts are regarding this interior. Do you have an apartment like this? Would you like a flat in this style?
